"Green and brown occupations, and labour market dynamics: evidence from Belgium"

10/08/2023

Ilse Tobback

On 15 June, Ilse Tobback presented results from the LAMARTRA study "Green and brown occupations, and labour market dynamics: evidence from Belgium" at the international UNTANGLED workshop in Warsaw, Poland.

The one-day event, organised by the Institute for Structural Research (IBS),  gathered 23 labour market economists from European universities and research institutes to discuss and reflect on skill changes and the value of skills. Sessions were devoted to the impact of technology on skills, worker flows, skills, and inequality.

During her presentation, Ilse discussed the methods and findings of the study (co-authored jointly with Mikkel Barslund and Arthur Apostel), which analyses the extent and characteristics of green and brown employment in Belgium. Especially the method for measuring green and brown employment, and the analysis of labour market transitions was appreciated by the audience. Moreover, during the discussion, audience members raised interesting explanations for findings that deviated somewhat from our expectations.
